Snow Day In Georgia!

March 1, 2009, what a beautiful day in the south. It has been several years since we've seen snow in our neck of the woods. Sunday, we woke up to blowing flakes, but but nothing sticking. After a while, we noticed a little starting to stick. So of course we had to run outside in pajama's and flip flops to check it out. I started taking pictures before anything was covered. As the day progressed we were blessed with a beautiful scene everywhere we looked. One of my granddaughters, Payton, and I spent the entire day outside taking pictures. I ended the day with over three hundred pictures. Most of them of the horses. And many "Hallmark" moments.

The horses weren't thrilled to say the least. They were wet and gathered ice on their tails. They have free access to their 2800 square foot barn, but they stayed right out in the cold, blowing, and wet snow. All were just fine, except for the oldest gelding, Pete. I checked on them constantly like a mother hen, but once noticed that Pete was shivering. Not good. He was very wet and the wind was blowing strong. We closed off most of the doors to the barn to keep the wind out and got them all inside. Dried and brushed up Pete until he stopped shivering and moved some hay into the barn for all of them to entice them to stay inside. They normally have free choice hay outside under a nice big covered shed, but it was all covered with snow.

Payton and I tried to ride around the farm on the Polaris Ranger ATV, afterall it has a top and a windshield. We didn't get far before we realized that in order to ride around in blowing snow, and I do mean blowing, we also need some windshield wipers and doors! We finally made it back to the house and traded in the ATV for the Suburban and hit the road, the dirt road that is. By then we had a very good covering of snow and were able to take some awesome pictures of the dirt road we live on and on our place. After that we put on lot's more clothes and set out walking the property for more photo opportunities.

What a fun day. Payton and I stayed outside the entire day. We didn't notice much (until we saw the pictures later) how silly we looked all piled up with mismatched attire, my makeup was long gone and what was left was not in the right place. We had a great time. And at the end of the day, I believe my tummy was a little smaller. Hmmm, maybe walking around in heavy clothes, boots, in freezing weather, I lost a couple pounds. Made the day even more fun!

And it was just one snow day. Within 24 hours it was all melted away. But we have great memories.

Have You Hugged Your Horse Today?

I was feeling a bit blah today and a bit anxious for some reason. I think it's the weather lately. So I had to go out and give my horses each a big ole hug. Horses have magical powers you know.....yep they really do. Anytime I am feeling down, sad, anxious.....all I have to do is spend a little time with one or all five of them. I just put my arms around their neck, let out all my breath, and the stress just flows right out of me. I don't care if I get terribly dirty and dusty in the process. It feels so good to hug on my horses. They just know what I feel and they know how to fill my heart with soothing joy. They are truly magic. If you have a horse, you know what I'm talking about don't you?

Sent to me by a friend today with good timing...

Someone sent me an email today to say they missed me and that they still had "a saying" on their desk that I had sent to them a long time ago. And here is the saying......

“Work like you don’t need the money.
Love like you have never been hurt.
Dance like nobody’s watching.
And always remember, life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away….”

I don't remember who originally said that, but it came back to me today with such good timing.

I thought I would share it with you and hope that it lifts your spirit as it did mine.

An inspiring thought of the day.

"A pearl is a beautiful thing that is produced by an injured life. It is the tear [that results] from the injury of the oyster. The treasure of our being in this world is also produced by an injured life. If we had not been wounded, if we had not been injured, then we will not produce the pearl."

Good morning! The prices you see on the The Rusty Roo's items, already include shipping and handling costs. No surprises at check out. Let me know how you like that idea. Does it make it more convenient to know the total cost upfront? Or does it give the appearance of the item being priced too high?
